This year's Llangwm Festival marked its 10th anniversary with a spectacular range of events for villagers and visitors alike.

The Scarecrow Competition was sponsored by Chevron Oil Refinery who provided £400.00 of prize money and the winners were:

Adult's Class
1st - £250 won by Sarah Hall with JORDAN
2nd - £100 won by Mandie Davies with DENNIS & GNASHER
3rd - £50 won by Graham & Joan Stephens with SOIL MATES

Children's Class
1st - £60 won by Ebony Walker with THE WIZARD OF OZ
2nd - £25 won by Llangwm School with REV. JANE & HER FLOCK

3rd -£15 won by Ethan & Kieran Pender with PEPPA PIG & GEORGE PIG

There were 83 entries to this year's festival and pictures of these and this year's giant scarecrow - Buzz Lightyear can be seen on The Scarecrows page.

The Llangwm Souvenir Tea Towel10th anniversary tea towel

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Llangwm scarecrows and the festival, a limited edition souvenir tea towel was produced. There are still a few available and when they have gone, there will be no more. They can still be bought in Llangwm's village shop and in the cottage Inn. So get your tea towel now or be disappointed!

 

Festival Gallery

A full programme of Events were laid on including Opera, Comedy, Big Band, Blues, Jazz, and Gospel Music, all performed in the Festival marquee on Pill Parks Field which was sponsored by the Murco Oil Refinery and also with the generous help of Paul and Zoe from the Old Bakery. In addition there was a Vintage car display, a wedding dress exhibition, an Exhibition of Llangwm's local history and of course the Carnival. Pictures of these are displayed below.

Foreground, 1926 Bullnose Morris with a 1938 MG WA Tourer. This event was organised by The Llangwm Festival Committee in association with the Pembrokeshire Vintage Car Club.

Wednesday 1st July - Exhibition of Llangwm's Local History

History Exhibition

The Local History Exhibition ran from Wednesday 1st July until Monday 6th July. Over 400 people visited the exhibition.

Rob Scourfield with Jane Mills

On Saturday 4th July, Author, Rob Scourfield gave a talk on South Pembrokeshire dialects. He is seen here with Llangwm Locfal History Society chair, Jane Mills. This event was organised by the Llangwm Local History Society in association with the Pembrokeshire Museum Service.

Opera Playhouse

Opera Playhouse, featuring Karl Daymond and Pippa Longworth performed their new show, "Songs From The Potting Shed" in the Festival Marquee. This event was organised by St. Jerome's Church as one of its series of concerts and the concert was supported by the Night Out Scheme of the Arts Council of Wales.

Saturday 4th July - The Mid Summer Ball

The Merlinaires Dance Orchestra

The highlight of the Festival mid weekend was the mid summer ball with music provided by the Merlinaires Dance Orchestra.

Llangwm Ladies

An opportunity for all Llangwm's ladies to don a posh frock and indulge in a few high kicks. The Mid Summer Dance was organised by the Llangwm Festival Committee.

Sunday 5th July - Lunchtime Jazz

Lunchtime Jazz with Symphony Sid

Tim Pounder fronts Symphony Sid with an afternoon of Jazz while villagers enjoy a tasty lunch laid on by Llangwm Rugby Club.

Sunday 5th July - The One Voice Gospel Choir

One Voice Gospel Choir

Over 100 attended the free concert by the One Voice Gospel Choir. This event was organised by St. Jerome's Church and funded by the Diocese of St. David's Venturing in Mission scheme.

Wednesday 8th July - The Comedy Night

Welsh Commedian Phil Evans compered a night of Stand up Comedy with Tudur Owen and Gillian Elisa. This event was organised by The Llangwm Festival Committee and was supported by the Night Out scheme of The Arts Council of Wales.

Friday 10th July - The Royal Television Society Debate

The Motion for debate was "This House Believes that Television is Primarily Responsible for The Moral Decline of this Country". Chaired by David Mills, the motion was proposed by Mari Griffith, a radio and television broadcaster and seconded by Simon Hart, Parliamentary Conservative candidate for the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Constituency and opposed by Hywel Wiliam, Head of Broadcasting for Ofcom and the Rev Jane Goupillon, Rector of Llangwm. The motion was rejected thrown out by 59% to 41% of the audience. This event was organised by the Royal Television Society and The Llangwm Festival Committee.

Saturday 11th July - The Carnival

With the weather turning bad as the day progressed, the whole carnival was contained in both the Festival Marquee and the Village Hall.

Overheard during The Llangwm Festival:

"I think the Llangwm Festival is better than Pembrokeshire Fish Week" - A visitor to the village who had come to see the scarecrows.

"Crikey, I don't want to listen to that pile of S**** . It's just a load of S*** " - A young Llangwm Rugby Club member as he made a rapid escape from the marquee to avoid the Opera Playhouse Concert.

"This could only happen in Llangwm" - A Festival Committee member while describing the wide range of events taking place during the festival.

"I think I need to go and lie down in a darkened room." - Pam Hunt as the festival drew to a close.
